About Us

Hi! My name is Marceen A. Burgher. Welcome to my Woman-owned, Black-owned spice business. I love to host and entertain and cooking is something I am passionate about. Spice mixing is more than a hobby or a job, it is a reward. Our goal is to focus on spices that have healing power.

I have had home-made Thai, Filipino, Chinese, Italian, Persian, Ethiopian and Indian. I have traveled to Mexico, Europe, Caribbean and Africa. Each time seeking out “good food.” I remember dining at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London and seven (7) courses later I was satisfied and full, wondering with one ravioli in one of the courses, how? I dined at La Colombe in South Africa in 2015 – divine! I have dined at world famous spots but I have also dined at some crappy and inbetween spots. The only conclusion I ever drew was food is as good as its spicing.

After living in Jamaica for 17 years, I know what it is like to enjoy fresh, tasty cuisine.

With my foodie journey, my palate has become complicated and my stomach became sensitive to gluten and some meat and spices. This meant I had to learn to cook food that satisfies it with taste and without irritation. Not just any food, but good tasting food. I LOVE fresh herbs and spices. However, it wasn't as easy as it looks. I learned to cook from watching my sister Michelle Burgher in the kitchen. She is one of the best home cooks I know and I couldn't have asked for a better teacher.

The first time I made her rice and peas, the rice was soggy and the taste was awful. Years of trial and error later, delicious dishes were created by me in my own kitchen. So I decided to take it a step further. Why buy all these pre-mix dry seasonings? Why not buy each whole spice and make everything myself? At least I will know what ingredient is in each spice blend. I can consciously eat what I want, knowing exactly what is inside of it. So I sat down and thought about all the spices I love to use and started blending. This is how the Nutmeg Project was born.

Been there, tried that, love it and I am now ready to share!
